Daimler SP250 1961 RARE AUTOMATIC COMPLETE RESTORATION IN 2016

**RARE AUTOMATIC** Built between 1959 and 1964, the Daimler Dart racked up a final tally of just 2,645 units, making it one of the more unusual British sportscars you’ll come across. Not that there’s an obvious reason for their rarity because, as Auto Express puts it: “those fortunate enough to already own an SP250 know all too well what cracking cars they are. As a result, although the Daimler is so often overlooked, demand still easily outstrips supply.” Fitted with a 2.5-litre V8 engine that develops 140bhp and 155lb/ft of torque, they go well, too. The top speed is one mph shy of 125mph, and it streaks to 60mph in 8.9 seconds; heady stuff, back in the day.At 940kgs, it’s light too, so it feels even more sprightly than the bald figures suggest. Of course, power is nothing without control and the Dart’s suspension and brakes are easily up to the task. A plastic body means rust is less of an issue than for most of its contemporaries. .As does the automatic gearbox, which became available a year later. Previously only offered to the police and foreign markets. THis Daimler was orginal ordered on the 17th May 1961 by Stratstones Of Mayfiar, it still has a plaque above the switch gear from Stratones, and it was delivered to a Doctor on the 27th June 1961.Since then it has had a total of 5 owners. In 2016/2017 it had a rebuild which was featured in the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club 2016 review. we have all the photos of this comprehensive chassis up restoration.
